Scunthorpe 1 - 2 Salford Ladies

Salford made the long trip to Scunthorpe looking to return to form after a disappointing performance at home to Wakefield.

The match kicked off and Salford started brightly. Despite a poor pitch, Salford played some good football. Making the home side work by passing and moving with the ball.

Fay Abrehart intercepted the ball on the edge of the Salford penalty area and dribbled her way to the half way line. A superb pass from the Salford captain pierced the Scunthorpe defence, and Alicia Cain lofted the ball over the keeper to brilliantly finish and give Salford the lead. 0 - 1.

Salford continued to dominate, playing constantly in their opponents half.

Chelsea Scholes saw her effort flash wide of the post, and Alicia Cain was unlucky not to earn a penalty as she was tripped in the area.  Abbie Wynn turned just outside the box and somehow the keeper managed to keep out the shot. And Michelle Lee saw her shot deflect just wide.

Fay Abrehart continued to pick holes in the Scunthorpe defence as the home side struggled to cope.

Salford won a free kick mid way in their opponents half. Fay Abrehart who's passing had been exceptional all day delivered another quality ball in to the Scunthorpe penalty area. Rosie Havelin challenged bravely with the keeper and managed to volley the ball into the roof of the net. 2 - 0. Half Time 0 - 2.

Salford ended the half comfortably and began the second just as quickly as the first.

The travelling side were unlucky not to have a third when Rebecca Owen headed over from a corner.

After a mix up in the Salford defence the Scunthorpe forward found herself one on one with the Salford keeper. Jenny Doherty brilliantly managed to get a hand on the shot but unfortunately couldn't keep the ball out. 1 -2.

Scunthorpe sensed a little nerves in the Salford team and pushed forward in search of an equaliser.This suited Salford as the away side could counter at leisure.

Despite some poor refereeing, and several free kicks around the Salford penalty area Scunthorpe couldn't hit the target and Salford maintained their lead.
