Scunthorpe Ladies 0 - 2 Salford Ladies

After returning to winning ways with last weeks 3-0 victory over Peterlee Town, Salford travelled to Scunthorpe hoping to put back to back victories together. The last time the two teams met was before the new year, with Salford grabbing a last minute equaliser to draw the game 3-3.

Salford started the brighter of the two teams, playing some neat football and pressing Scunthorpe high up the pitch. The commitment from both teams was evident, neither pulling out of challenges. Salford's high tempo pressure start began to cause Scunthorpe problems, and with the home side beginning to make mistakes Salford took control of the game.  Neither team really troubled either goalkeeper in the first half with the best chance of scoring coming from some good work down the Salford flank.  Clare Daly dribbled past the full back and delivered a dangerous cross into the Scunthorpe penalty area.  But the Scunthorpe defender dealt with the pressure quite easily and unmarked to the bemusement of the Salford manager.  Still Salford continued to play some neat football and went into the half time break in control of the game.   Half Time 0-0.

The second half kicked off in the same manner as the first. Salford's pressure began to create chances in the oppositions first third and within minutes of the restart Salford took the lead. Some good football in the midfield caught the Scunthorpe defence napping. A neat pass through the home sides rear guard and Chelsea Scholes scored from close range after battling with the Scunthorpe centre back. 1-0. Salford's dominance continued as the home side struggled to break down Salford's stubborn defensive resistance. A couple of changes to freshen things up as Louise Wakefield replaced the impressive Katie Winder and Isha Mundell replaced Chelsea Scholes who had a slight hamstring strain. With Scunthorpe chasing the game Salford's chances came thick and fast with best chance coming from a corner, which Louise Wakfield was unlucky not to score with a header from close range. With ten minutes remaining Salford scored a second from the penalty spot. Some more neat football in the midfield and Abbie Wynn found herself in a chase to get to the ball first with the Scunthorpe keeper. Abbie Wynn got to the ball first and rounded the keeper only to be hauled down to earn the visitors a spot kick. Lyndsey Newman comfortably converted to kill any hopes of the home side getting anything from the game. 2-0. Salford earned themselves a well deserved victory, a professional performance restricting the home side from registering a single shot at goal. Full Time 2-0
