Passing the ball neatly and unsettling the Salford midfield Lancaster City held their own early on in the match.
After some excellent defending by Salford, Hannah Crowley played a short ball to Claire Beard who launched it up field, Anne Beagan was beaten in the air by the Lancaster City defender, but the ball fell to Louise Wakefield she passed a through ball to Rhea Knowles who then set up Anne Beagan to coolly put the ball into the back of the net, 1-0.
With some fine football from Jodie Power and Lyndsey Newman, and some terrific heading from Katie Winder and Louise Wakefield Salford had a number of near misses but finally got what they deserved when Lyndsey Newman sent Rhea Knowles through to beat two defenders and score Salford’s second of the day.
Half-time 2-0.
The second half started with Salford under pressure, Lancaster City’s heads had not gone down, but once again with Jess Daly, Hannah Crowley, Katie Winder and Claire Beard in defence Salford weathered the storm. Strong tackling in midfield from Ranade Coffey won the ball, Louise Wakefield received the ball and flicked it through to Ann Beagan who struck a bending shot to score her second goal of the match, 3-0 to Salford.
Another good counter attack and Salford’s Becky Steen got her rewards for some hard work, she ran through the Lancaster City defence and smashed the ball into the back of the net, the match was well and truly out of Lancaster City’s reach now. Full-time 4-0.
Special mention goes to Abbie Ordish, who contributed well on her debut.
