Salford Ladies FC Blues v Leyland Ladies FC

Salford Ladies FC Blues  2 - 1  Leyland Ladies

Salford started the match at a blistering pace with Leyland struggling to get in the game.  Led by captain Lynsdey Newman Salford were enjoying some good football and were unfortunate not to have been two goals up in the first twenty minutes but some fine saves from the Leyland keeper kept Salford out.  Just before half time Leyland opened the scoring, they broke and won a corner, Leyland's defender jumped way above everyone to head the ball into the top corner, Salford went in at half time one nil down.

With some encouraging words from the management Salford started the second half with more determination than the first, they produced some super football and battled their way back into the game.  Claire received the ball just outside the penalty area, looked up, and chipped the goalkeeper, 1-1.

Salford won a free kick, Leyland's keeper made a good save to stop Tilly's free kick reaching the back of the net. From the corner, but for a handball in front of goal going unseen by the referee Salford could have taken the lead.

Sam Chesters in Salford's goal pulled off two great saves to keep Salford in the game, a swift pass out and Salford were on the attack again from this point they dominated possession hitting the woodwork twice.

Salford lost their debutant when Joanna had to come off with an injury, Salford were down to ten players but this didn't deter them, tremendous tackles from Jodie, Holly and Debbie showed the team that Salford weren’t beaten.  With Siobhan, Claire and Nicol putting pass after pass together Michelle Wilkinson was sent on her way, racing past the Leyland defence she blasted the ball past the Leyland keeper into the back of the net to earn a well deserved goal.  Full-time 2-1.
