Salford Ladies 5 - 0 Blackpool Wrens

Salford were at home to Blackpool Wrens both teams were looking for a win having drawn their first games of the season to Bradford City and Liverpool Feds.

The game started lively enough and it did not take long before Salford took the lead with a good display of football. Abbie Wynn, who tried her luck from outside the box, drove the ball through midfield, she cracked the ball high, and with the Blackpool keeper struggling the ball thundered into the top right-hand corner of the net, 1-0 to Salford.

The home team continued to dominate with Blackpool firmly rooted in their own half.  Salford had numerous chances to add to their lead but unfortunately couldn't convert, their patience finally paid off when the second goal came just before the break, with a steady build up from the back Fay Abrehart passed the ball out to Isha Mundell who took it past the Blackpool player and sent the ball inside to Lou Wakefield, Lou picked her player and launched the ball forward to the right wing.  Clare Daly took the ball from the air and knocked it across field where Abbie Wynn sent Chelsea Scholes running at the Blackpool defence moving past two defenders and flicking it over the Blackpool keeper, 2-0.

Salford began the second half the same as they finished the first, piling the pressure on the visitors. Once again a neat through ball left Kerry Tierney one-on-one with the keeper, she coolly lofted the ball over the keeper and into the back of the net,   3-0.

Blackpool began to get into the game creating a few chances themselves with the best brilliantly saved by goalkeeper Joanne Phillips, determined to keep a clean sheet, Salford were encouraged by their captain Fay Abrehart to keep focused and not let their game slip.

A few more chances were created by Salford, Chelsea Scholes coming close with a twenty yard drive, Abbie Wynn twice coming close with long range strikes and another with a left foot strike from the edge of the box. Charlotte O’Connor tried her hand but her long-range efforts were just off target.

Salford made a few changes, Fay Abrehart, Clare Daly and Kerry Tierney made way for Anne Beagan, Katie Winder and Sarah Howden.

All three substitutes were quick to get in on the action, a one two with Katie Winder and Anne Beagan found herself bearing down on goal only to have her shot saved by the keeper. The Blackpool keeper launched the ball up field and Sarah Howden took control of the ball and sent it straight back to the Blackpool goal just missing by inches. Within minutes Sarah Howden found herself again with a chance on goal, the Blackpool keeper didn't stand a chance as Sarah struck a thunderous shot at goal, 4-0.

Salford continued to dominate and grabbed a fifth from a set piece, another good delivery from a corner by Lyndsey Newman found Claire Harrop who slotted the ball into the back of the net, 5-0.
