Salford win the local derby against Man City.
Man City were left stunned after losing the Manchester Cup Final 3-2 to Salford Ladies after extra time. Salford, underdogs from the start, took the lead early on through new signing Abbie Wynn's neat header from a free kick. Salford continued to dominate the first half with some neat football, until a poor decision from the assistant referee which should have resulted in three players being flagged for offside, one of which managed to poke past the Salford keeper to score but the flag stayed down. With Salford still reeling Man City managed to snatch an undeserved lead before half time to go into the break ahead.
The second half began the same as the first with Salford dominating most of the possession, Isha Mundell managed to wriggle free from the defensive pressure and lash a twenty five yard shot past the helpless City keeper to make it 2-2. Salford pressed and pressed for the remainder of the second half but could not find that winning goal as the game headed for extra time.
Salford had been very threatening from set pieces in normal time and it wasn't a suprise that their percistance finally paid off when Fay Abrehart the Salford skipper converted a corner kick to give the lower ranked team the lead. Salford had the chances to increase their lead but just couldn't convert, Man City had no reply.

A very productive weekend for Salford and a good pre-season so far.
