Lancashire County Cup Semi Final Salford Ladies 3 Bolton Wanderers 2

Salford Ladies players rose to the occasion and emerged the winners of the Lancashire FAWomen's Cup Semi-Final at Littleton Road against Bolton Wanderers Ladies.

Bolton Wanderers got the semi-final underway and as expected started with a frantic pace.  The pressure was on Salford in the first 10 minutes, a good save from the Salford goalkeeper Joanne Phillips denied Bolton the advantage.

Salford settled, Charlotte O’Connor in defence put in some crunching tackles letting Bolton Wanderers Ladies know the game was on.

Twelve minutes gone, Salford were awarded a free kick Lyndsey Newman floated the ball into the box for Abbie Wynn to head the ball against the crossbar, Chelsea Scholes followed up and smacked the ball into the back of Bolton’s net, 1-0.

A mix up with the goalkeeper and defence allowed Caroline Price from Salford to capitalise and net another goal, half-time 2-0.

Following some stern words from the manager at half time Salford kept their concentration, playing the ball around a lot quicker and starting to find space, but a good interception from the Bolton defence and a quick counter attack Bolton found the back of the net 2-1.

Salford found themselves up against it when a misplaced header from Chelsea Scholes put a Bolton player through on goal and she hit the back of the net 2-2.

As the game went into the last two minutes a patient build up from Salford put Claire Daly through on goal, who was unlucky not to score but forced the goalkeeper to tip it over the goal, corner to Salford. Lyndsey Newman stepped up and swung the ball into the box where Katie Winder thundered the ball into the back of the net, Salford are through to the Final. Full-time 3-2.
